Save a web page as a PDF: Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox

Published 2026-09-18 · Tutorial

Almost every article, guide, ticket or receipt you come across can be saved as a PDF straight from your browser, with no extension and no account. The result is a clean, offline file you can read later, print or store like any document. Every major browser hides the feature in its print dialog, and each one handles it a little differently. Here is how to save a web page as a PDF on Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and how to make the output actually look good.

What saving a page as a PDF gives you

Turning a web page into a PDF is useful far more often than you expect. Articles become read-later files that work with no connection, receipts and confirmations become documents you can file or attach to an email, and booking pages become printable records. Unlike a screenshot, a PDF keeps the text selectable and searchable, which lets you reuse a quote or find a keyword later. You get the page as a stable document instead of a pixel picture.

Chrome and Edge: the two-step shortcut

Chrome and Edge share the same engine, so the steps are identical. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Cmd+P on Mac to open the print dialog, choose Save as PDF from the destination list, then click Save and pick a folder. Before you save, adjust the Scale so text is not clipped, and switch to More settings to add or remove headers and footers and to enable Background graphics if the page relies on color. The file lands ready to use.

Safari: keep the formatting intact

Safari has its own export path. In the File menu choose Export as PDF, which captures the page as it appears on screen, including its styling and images, without collecting the usual browser print mojibake. Alternatively use the print dialog and pick Save as PDF as your destination. For very long pages, export a section at a time so the file stays manageable, then pull the pieces together when you are done.

Firefox: print with the Reader view for clean pages

Firefox prints through its own dialog with a Save as PDF destination too. For articles surrounded by menus, banners and pop-ups, first switch on Reader View, the button next to the address bar that strips the page down to the article itself. Then print to PDF and you get a clean, readable document free of the clutter on screen. Reader View is the single biggest quality win for saving news and articles.

Fix a page that comes out wrong

Sometimes the export is close but not perfect: a page splits awkwardly, a sidebar sneaks in, or an ad banner is baked into the file. Because saving produces a regular PDF, every cleanup tool applies. Remove or reorder pages to cut out blank pages and stray sections, rotate the page if a wide table comes out sideways, and compress the PDF to slim down pages heavy with images before you email or upload them.

Make one tidy document from several pages

When you save several pages that belong together, such as the chapters of a long article or the pages of a booking flow, combine them into a single file. Merge the PDFs in the order you want so you carry one document instead of a stack. For a page you only need part of, use split the PDF to keep just the useful pages. Whether it is one clean article or one consolidated bundle, a saved page becomes a proper, shareable document in under a minute.
